Armed with a deadly short game, it was only a matter of when, not if, that he would graduate to the next level.

In my infinite wisdom, it wasn’t all that long ago that I projected Calgarian Wes Heffernan as the next Canuck to make the jump to the PGA Tour.

Right city. Wrong player, it appears.

It seems the best player from Cowtown –heck, maybe the best player from Canada not currently on the PGA Tour – is none other than Dustin Risdon, who isn’t exactly a household name in Canada.

If your first reaction was “Who?”, you’ve just proved my point for me.

Risdon has pretty well flown under the radar despite notching a pair of wins on the Canadian Tour in the past couple of years. Now taking his swings on the Nationwide Tour after making it to the final stage of the 2008 PGA Tour qualifying school, Risdon is beginning to attract plenty of attention.

Albertan makes the cut in his first PGA event; 'It's awesome out here'

Dustin Risdon's tooling around in a nice courtesy car, living the opulent lifestyle of a PGA Tour professional and he's probably going to make himself a nice little pay day this weekend.

"It's awesome out here," the 27-year-old native of Strathmore, Alta., said yesterday. "You can get used to this pretty quick."

Risdon defeats Bradford in playoff

Dustin Risdon managed just a one-under 70 Sunday, then birdied the first playoff hole to defeat George Bradford and win the ATB Financial Classic at Cottonwood Golf and Country Club.


Bradford fired an eight-under 63 to join Risdon at 20-under-par 264. They tied the tournament scoring record that Mike Grob set last year.

The duo returned to the 18th hole for the playoff and Risdon quickly ended the extra session with a birdie for his second Canadian Tour win.

Edmonton, AB - Dustin Risdon, who set the course record Friday with a 63, posted a six-under 65 Saturday to grab a two-stroke lead after three rounds of the Edmonton Open.

Risdon completed 54 holes at 15-under-par 198. He is two strokes clear of Pan Singhaseni, who notched a 68 in round three.

Risdon gets first Canadian Tour win

Dustin Risdon posted a four-under 67 on Sunday to earn his first Canadian Tour victory at the Edmonton Open at Edmonton Country Club.

He finished at 19-under-par 265 and won by a single stroke over Alan McLean, who fired a 65 and took second place for the second time in as many weeks.

‘It hasn’t really sunk in yet, but it feels pretty good right now,’ said Risdon. ‘I’ve had a few chances but you really need to play well on the weekend out here. I was able to do that.’

Dustin Risdon turned down the first beer, but after holding his breath for a little more than an hour, he was looking for the guy who had been doing the offering ealier.

"I was close. I didn't have any expectations of winning when the day began, so I'll take a tie for second," said Risdon, who scalded Pine Ridge for a 9-under-par score of 62 to shoot out of the Players Cup pack and take the clubhouse lead at 13-under par late Sunday afternoon.
